Dentures

A complete or partial denture could help to get you smiling confidently again.

Finding the right fit

If you’re missing a few (or many) teeth, a complete or partial denture could be a solution, helping to restore the function and confidence afforded by a full smile.

We’ll do all we can to ensure a great fit, so your denture is comfortable and secure.

Matched to your existing teeth, dentures can be almost undetectable, so they can be your little secret if you so wish.

Why choose dentures?

As well as improving the appearance of your smile, filling in gaps between teeth, dentures can also help to support the structures of your mouth, including your cheeks and lips. So not only could you have attractive and functional teeth, but your face could be fuller and more youthful too.

Partial dentures – as the name suggests, these are used to replace missing teeth between your natural ones. This may be preferable to other tooth replacement options, like a dental bridge, when the surrounding teeth aren’t strong enough to support additional pressures.

Full or complete dentures – replacing all your natural teeth, these may be held in place by suction alone, or with the help of denture adhesive.

Both types of dentures are fitted to the gum line and can be easily removed for cleaning, or when sleeping.

What are dentures made from?

In the past dentures were made from porcelain or plastic, but these days they tend to be made from durable resin. The material along the gum line can be made from the same material, or a more flexible polymer for a snug fit. We can also provide you with metal-based dentures, which can be thinner and cover less surface area of your mouth, due to their increased strength.

Although very strong, these synthetic materials may wear, chip, or crack more easily that natural teeth – there really is not better alternative. However, if well cared for, a set of dentures can provide several years of comfortable wear.

Speak to us about your options

Book an appointment with us so we can complete an assessment, discuss your options, and explore the possibility of fitting a new denture. We may need to take x-rays as part of this process.

If you decide it’s the right option for you, we’ll take a mould or scan of your teeth. Our lab will use this to create a set of dentures which fit snugly and comfortably.

When your dentures are ready, pop back for a fitting and some care tips. Then you should be all set to wear and show off your new smile with pride.

Caring for your new dentures

A set of dentures could give you several years of comfortable wear, especially if you:

  • Clean them each day using a liquid detergent and a soft toothbrush.
  • Keep them in a protective case when you’re not wearing them.
  • Store them overnight in clean water.
  • Keep your dentures away from heat sources which could deform them.
  • Be careful not to drop them – they could chip or crack.

You might like to have your dentures adjusted or replaced over time, just as any natural teeth and structures of your mouth change over time, potentially affecting the fit of your dentures. Typically, you’d expect to upgrade your dentures every 10 years, or so.

How much do dentures cost?

Not only do we fit new dentures, but we can also make alterations and repairs to existing ones, helping to extend the lifespan of your dental appliance.
